The Wonders of February

Happy February Everyone!!

As an African American Model/ Designer whose currently Head Over Heels in Love with my Fiancee, I am truly looking forward to THIS MONTH for New York Fashion Week, Valentine's Day & Black History Month !

Black History Month began as 'Black History Week' established by historian Carter G Woodson in February 1926. He thought of the great idea to educate Americans of the African- American history and culture. In 1976, the push for the switch from 'Negro History Week' to 'Black History Month' was a rapid success and every president that has been in office since has issued proclamations endorsing the annual theme. What A Wonderful Fact !

In the name of Black History Month, I will be highlighting my IDOL, Dorothy Dandridge. Dorothy was the FIRST African American Actress to be nominated for an Oscar for her 1954 role in Carmen Jones. Dorothy was born Dorothy Jean Dandridge on November 9, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a very talented Actress and Singer who life was cut short, allegedly by a drug overdose. She lives on by her mentally challenged daughter Harolyn Suzanne Nicholas, whom she had with ex-husband Harold Nicholas.

I absolutely love Dorothy Dandgridge and admire her for her style, grace and poise all while she went through the harsh reality of racism. Halle Berry's portrayal of Dorothy was a creat success and I'm glad the movie allowed everyone who were not aware of the beautiful talent, learned through the movie, including myself.

Dorothy Dandrige, I Salute You for Paving The Way for Us !
